Amanda is originally from Rhode Island, and moved to Michigan when her husband joined Central Michigan University as a math professor. They have been a part of the community for almost five years. She has always loved making art as long as she can remember. When younger, she took art lessons and spent much of her spare time learning to draw her favorite cartoon characters, designing towns with Legos and falling in love with the creative process. Amanda wanted to be an animator or an architect when she grew up and continued to explore different media as she got older. She fell in love with other art forms as well, including music and theater. As an adult, she integrated her artwork with practical objects and has created art on furniture, jewelry boxes, stationary, and many gifts. She has also done some work in pencil drawing, printmaking, and both watercolor and acrylic painting. Acrylic painting is her favorite.
When it came time to focus on her future, she decided to go into music education. Collaborating with a community to perform a piece was rewarding and fulfilling and something that she wanted to bring to others. Amanda completed her Bachelors in Music Education at the University of New Hampshire and her Masters in Music Education from Boston University. Amanda is a Kindergarten specials teacher at Luce Road ECLC, teaching music and movement, art, P.E., and technology. She feels very grateful to have a job that invites so much creativity and gives her the opportunity to share these loves with young students. For Amanda, art has been an outlet of expression, a way to both stimulate and challenge her mind. Her creativity extends to many parts of her life and has become an important part of who she is. Amanda says, “Art provides a way for us to share ourselves with our collective identity as a community. It opens us up to new ideas, connects us, brings enjoyment, and inspires us.” Amanda teaches Little Artists for children 5-7 years old. Her classes focus on self-expression, concentration, refining motor skills, with new projects offered monthly on first Thursdays. She is also a current ACAC Board member, and helps with our social media presence. |
